Chapter Six
Irresistible urge of the tropics
Peasants worked with renewed vigor, clearing dead branches from plots and rebuilding homes.
Desiree felt no joy in the awakening life around her. Scenes of brilliance to startle the eyes.
How, when, this is the way I must go,
Put one foot out, the other is sure to follow. She loved Mama and she did not want to leave.
Ask Tonton again about distance, far, kilometers and kilometers, along forest, runs by sea. Another road corsses, leading east.
Went to M. Bienconnu, who are Beauxhomme, from where do they come.
Cherished concubine, adoring father, Palace. Black mountains.
Gabriel Beauxhomme was Jean, and Armand. French, Napoleon.
Fell love with a peasant girl, La Belle, black, smooth, slanting eyes and pretty white teeth.
Peasant girl had a boy. Beaufiles. Then changed to Beauxhomme.
Fought for opposition, revolution VS France and Napoleon.
Son claimed the castle as his inheritance, Castle Beauxhomme. Curse.
Trigged Desiree. She believed she belongs in the big city, he is waiting for her.
Can not love. History has cast out fate in stone. Words chilled her. Stood outside.
Julian noticed her, talked, leave the cillage, must go tonight, Young Daniel is in danger, he needs me, must go. Road is too hard for men and mules. Anxious to leave before Mama arried.
Not children, sixteen years old, strong, no fear. Bravery can sometimes be the mark of a fool.
Mama arrived.
A grand homme does need a poor peasant girl.
Agwe and Erzulie saved Daniel from Papa Ge on teh promise of my soul.
Mama believes Ti Moune is our treasure. Treasure that need contact watching have already lost.
Real joy only comes in the future.
Argument between Julian and Mama, Desiree made a move to leave the clearing, But Euralie saw her ease away, grabbed hand and consults gods.
Chapter seven:
Up to hills, talk to gods.
Mama was anxious to make important plea to gods. Only simple question. But this prayer for the mind and heart of a foolish girl might perhaps meddle in some fiendish scheme of a mad god.
What if they decided Desiree had to stay, to risk her love, on a whim of the gods.
Darkness deepened, moon rose. Woman feared no shadow, feared but one thing to lose Ti Moune, They walked in drumbeats. Awge, your child has come. Guides her.
She saw Papa Ge, leaning against a tree, blended in with the shadows, but his head, the cigar clenched in his bloody brown teeth, his gums and tongue gleaming blood red. Smiled at her
She screamed but no one heard. Drums kept on beating.
Doubts arouse, what is that night Agwe and Erzulie did not hear her plea. Just conjured up a dream. Only a dream.
Ti Moune and Mama Euralie stood outside the houngfor and Mama called to talk with Gods.
Silence but dim light, Voice, daughter, petite enfant whom I abandoned on the hill these years, missed you.
Mama, Virgin stood cloaked in piety, She left her village, it was for her and she gave her life. Not from lip of virgin, came from a shadowy figures, tall man, thin. Put in the tree.
Mama Euralie comforted Desiree.
Outside, the drums beat loud, louder, fast, faster, the voices rose. Desiree inside fearfully, fearing silence, fearing the presence of the gods.
A woman emerged, tall, broad, beautiful. Her white lace dress sparkling and heavy with beads. No such cloth existed in thier village, no such woman. Vain Erzulie. “ Black, beautiful Desiree, I am Erzulie, loa of love, I do not hold you to the vow you made on that stressful night.
Not a dream, real existed.
Daniel life was as impossible a distance from yours. As the road you need to go.
A man voice came from an old woman, as old as M. Biencunnu, faced Erzulie, her youthful eyes flashing with anger and mischief in the wrinkled face.
Agwe, you are hear. Decided to come, here you are to undo plans that I have made.
No compromise,
Let her be unhappy, what designs? Reponsibile for her mom death. Punishment for lies. Distortion. Agwe saved the child.
Child became burden. The blameless peasants must carry the burden of your guilt? Who support Asaka laziness. But Agwe caused Asaka pain. Rage destroyed her, erodes her power.
Human destroyed her, by needs, the houses they must build, their ships, the statues that must be carved, the charcoal they have to burn.
Sniverlers.
Peasants held their breath in a stillness meant to keep each blameless. Agwe gone made.
If there’s no love on the world, Agwe can not endure the loss of power bit by bit.
Cruel of gods, selfish.
Desiree wanted to escape.
Agwe did not believe human soul.
Two gods stared at each other, anger matching angers. But sudden, Agwe said to Erzulie, they both need grand romance, can save them. Let them force people to save themselves, and their immortal souls. ----Islanders can not truly love each others.
Agwe was the most powerful gods, it shall be the end.
Papa Ge sat, grinning down, He came for the vows given in trust be kept in trust.
Agwe did not like Papa Ge. There must be room for me in all your plans.
Then Papa Ge stepped over the grail, spend body of the old woman and walked toward Desiree, felt hot breath fan her cheek, she screamed, and ran away.
Chapter eight:
Fear spurred her on and desperation.
SHe putted distance between herself and those who loved her, her home and her brook, her past.
The peasant girl walked on for miles.
She drifted off to sleep, her thoughts on gods, what anger, hwo vain, how selfish, how pround and pretty were these gods to whom the gentle peasants humbled themselves.
She fell asleep.
Agwe tall, beautiful, his lofty head of the richest blue green seaweed decorated in gold.
Asaka sat sulking, looking drab and ragged in a brown dress.
Erzulie, forever lovely, paraded her self so vainly.
Papa Ge sat in background witha smug smile on his mouth, his bloodied teeth clutching a cigar.
How far she came and how far should she have to go. SHe walked from woods to raod.
Desiree walked up to the nearest vendor and asked to to Beauxhomme.
Not knwon and said black mountains was far.
Before go black mountains, first go big cities. By walking was seemed ridiculous.
Laughed. To dreamer all things are possible.
The laughter of the vendors confused and shamed her.
Agains walked all nights.
She saw rows of neat little houses spraling over the countryside. Going up to a woman who wore pretty contton dress and a head scarf of bright print.
Beggar. Twisted shoulders to better look down at the peasant girl. Black mountain was still far.
Desiree felt gloom descending. Fear and determination. Death for a girl. Discouraged. She abandoned all thought of sleep.
In the morning she awoke. She saw across the road a tall, havy woman sitting bent over a big iron pot. Hungry, smell of frying pork and plantains. Can you give me some. Why
No money? No. Tearing. Give up easy, die easy. Took few pork and some slices of fried plantains and hot pepper. Learn about patience.
She ate all, she bome painfully hungry. Stopped at a grillot stand, road seemed longer, her destination farther away.
Waiting, why, exercising patience. Not reason,
A man heard Black mountains, far, but not so far, one day or three at the most, he is rich,.
Anxious once again to be gone, the peasant girl walked quickly away, the woman called her back, bread to prepare.
Chapter nine:
Seventh day, came to place where forest and sea met. Clear, turquoise, reflecting the sky.
An orphan girl, alone in the woods, alone on the road. Incredible beauty on Jewel. Thanked Agwe for her safe arrival. Fall asleep.
She woke up and aaw a young girl stooping to collect things tossded with seaweeds. Searching for foods. Parents were taken away by sea.
Taking to the nicest paretns a child can have, a wishing cage.
One keeps the world open the spirit free in a wishing cage.
How? Close eyes and wish hard, to capture papillons and how to make a wish.
They searched but not find any butterflies at the seashores. Then moved to woods and found one.
Always know your wish, you must want that wish so that it comes through to the tips of your fingers. Smiled.
Once more waited, sat beneath the tree as the sun sank in the west. Lovely papillon came to rest on same bush. Little girl moved slovwly. And reached out her hands, butterfly let her appraoch.
Wish, do not tell and any, then go through forest, find vendors, then exercise patience, sleep in woods, then travel for four and five daysm then found people who knos Julian and Euralie, then told them that you were send by Desiree, your hopes of being their new Desiree. Wish shall come true.
Desiree watched her go, one of Desiree wishes would be granted too.
Fo rthem to be happy.
